Habitat:  Older 2nd-growth northern mesic forest, in transition zone between Acer saccharum-, Tilia americana-, Quercus rubra-dominated main forest block and Tsuga canadensis-, Betula allegheniensis-dominated zone along river; shrub layer: small Abies balsamea, Picea glauca, and Tsuga canadensis trees plus Dirca palustris; ground-layer assoc.: Carex pensylvanica-dominant, with Anemone quinquefolia, Claytonia virginica, Dentaria diphylla, Erythronium americanum, and Luzula acuminata var. acuminata.
