Undisturbed northern mesic forest, dominated by Acer saccharum, with Tilia americana, Tsuga canadensis, Betula allegheniensis, and scattered Pinus strobus and Thuja occidentalis; shrub layer minimally developed but herbaceous flora rich. Margin of small (5-acre) swampy sedge meadow filling kettle depression in middle of SNA. Assoc.: Athyrium filix-femina var. angustum, Carex arctata, C. deweyana, C. pedunculata, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Pyrola elliptica, and Schizachne purpurascens. |
