Ridge top and slight N-facing slope, heavily pastured until 5-10 years ago, now growing up to Rubus strigosus, Rubus cf. alleghaniensis, R. occidentalis, with thin stand of large Tilia americana, Quercus rubra, Q. alba, Ostrya virginiana, Prunus serotina. Shrub 2 m. tall; in colony, probably a clone, of plants scattered over half acre of more. Wood white, soft; bark gray, fibrous and very strong. |

Unfolding bud scales and leaves forming a hood over the hanging flowers, which more or less rest on the lower bud scale. Flowers odorless. Corolla light yellow-green; anthers orange.
