Habitat:  Rich forest of Acer saccharum, Tilia americana underlain by an extensive population of Taxus canadensis; steep N-facing river bluff with sandstone cliffs above. Other associates found here: Staphylea trifoliata, Dirca palustris, Arailia nudicaulis, Cypripedium calceolus, Trillium flexipes, Rhus radicans, Mitella diphylla, Asarum candense, Polemonium reptans, Thalictrum diocum, Geranium maculatum, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Sanguinaria candensis, Carex sprengelii, Adiantum pedatum
